A week after watching the first three live action movie adaptations, I was able to finish watching the newer live action adaptations - the 2015 drama series, the 2016 movie (sequel to the first movies) and its three-part prequel. I may also consider watching the American version as well as the anime series. But overall, I still prefer the 2006 movies.

This actually follows a different story line from the first live action adaptation, with somewhat confusing yet unique plot twist (but I actually liked it!) revealed at the middle to end of this series. In the 2006 movies, Yagami Light already exudes his genius side even before he found the Death Note, while in this drama adaptation, it started with Light being a typical university student having part-time job, and his wit and his sense of "justice" were only started to awaken due to an incident where his father was involved. Looking at the transition of Light's character from being innocent to psychopath, I can say that humans are indeed scary - we'll never know at what extent they can do. Also, in this adaptation, a character named Near is introduced here as L's comrade and assisted in the Kira Case. I also like Ryuk here, he's funnier, as compared to more serious Ryuk in the movies lol.

This is actually a sequel to the first two movies released in 2006. 10 years after the Kira Case, murders start to occur around the world again, which were believed to be caused by the Death Note. Hence, a task force, lead by Mishima, started to investigate the case, also with the assistance of Ryuzaki, a private investigator who is known as L's successor. In their investigation, they discovered that there are six Death Notes existing, and when they were able to acquire some of these, a computer virus, in a form of a recorded video from Light is spreading, asking to hand over the Death Notes.

Death Note NEW GENERATION

No. of Episodes: 3, approx. 22 mins. per episode
Original Network: Hulu

This is the prequel to Death Note: Light Up the New World movie. The mini series depicts the three main characters in the movie, and how they involved in the Death Note case - Mishima, the lead of the Kira task force, known as Death Note otaku; Ryuzaki, the private detective known as L's successor; and Shien, a cyberterrorist who's a "Kira" follower, the one spreading the Kira computer virus.

Honestly, the 2016 movie (and its prequel) doesn't give me much impression, although I appreciate the part wherein it shows how Misa's doing after 10 years since she took ownership of the Death Note. But anyway...

One thing that I realized: What many of us can perceive as something good, can actually deceive us and may ended up being an actual bad thing, and vice-versa. That thought is just terrifying, and this really tests our sense of justice and morality. ๐Ÿ˜
